New Secretary:
Founder and former National Secretary Colorado T. Sky is back in the
officer cadre as Secretary of what he describes as a "revitalized" American
Chapter. "There's a lot going on, and there's going to be even more as time
goes on." he growls. "Active membership is going to be just exactly that-
Active." Sky stepped down as National Secretary in May of 1999 to pursue
his Masters degree, which he received in '01 from Wright State University.
He is currently a Lecturer at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH.

There are two classes of membership in the HighwayPoets Motor Cycle Club: the Active Members and the Associates.
ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP:
The Active patch is large and worn on the back. To become an Active Member, one must Prospect with an Active Member sponsor and be voted in by the Active Members in good standing.
There are certain requirements which must be met to obtain and maintain Active Member status! The initial requirements can be fulfilled during the Prospecting phase, which will under no circumstances be shorter than three months. The initial Prospecting requirements are an Associate Membership, possession of valid motorcycle operator license, and proof of three publications! After becoming Active, two annual "publications" and current dues are required to stay in good standing.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS:
Associates are easily identified by the small HPMCC patch, often worn on their left chest area. Below, of course, is our original Gypsy when he was an Associate and prospecting for Active Membership.
There are few, if any, requirements for becoming an Associate. Of course there are the annual dues, which are currently $20. The optional patch would set you back another $14. Associate Membership is open to all genders and ages and you don't have to ride a bike or even write poetry! You are basically a "Friend of the Highway Poets MCC" and are welcome to ride and party with us. What you don't have, as an Associate, is decision making powers. You do not have a vote in what the club does or who gets accepted as an Active Member! |
In addition to the above standard membership types, there in also the status of HONORARY member, this is reserved for those who have made a significant contribution to motorcycling, literary arts or have had a positive effect on humankind.
